To support this, Aebi Schmidt provided the Specific Expertise Winter Service (SDW) training on site at Twente Milieu. The SDW training helps drivers operate spreaders and snowplows optimally, resolve breakdowns on the road themselves and ensure safety on the road - even under challenging conditions. The program is fully tailored to Twente Milieu's fleet of vehicles, making the knowledge directly applicable in daily practice.
"Glacier control is an emergency deployment with great responsibilities," says Rob Kersten, Chief Winter and Emergency Service Coordinator. "Our drivers often work under difficult conditions, so it is essential that they know how to operate the machines correctly and how to act in the event of any breakdowns."
Theory and practice hand in hand
The training course combined theory with practical exercises. Special attention was paid to emergency operation of spreaders, working safely with snowplows and troubleshooting on the road.
"Previously, when a spreader malfunctioned, it often had to go back to the workshop. Thanks to this training, our drivers now know how to act on the road, ensuring the continuity of winter service," Kersten said.
The program was very well received. Drivers emphasized that the knowledge is immediately applicable and that the training really helps them further in their daily work. "This was a course where our drivers really felt: we learned something from this," Kersten adds.
Ready for any winter scenario
In addition to safely handling icy roads, the training also covered snow situations - such as mounting and operating a snowplow - skills that are especially valuable for younger drivers. By offering the training on site and tailoring it to the fleet, Aebi Schmidt and Twente Milieu ensure that winter service teams are well-prepared, flexible and professional, regardless of the weather conditions.
