Electrifying Versatility: A Look Behind the Scenes of the Development of an Electric Sweeper

Safety in modern sweepers is a top priority, especially in electric models such as the Schmidt eCleango 550. From its robust cabin structure to ergonomic design and innovative glazing, numerous tests and certifications ensure that every component meets the highest standards. Discover how thoughtful engineering and rigorous testing result in a safe and user-friendly product.

Strong

The cab is a critical element in ensuring driver safety. To provide reliable protection in the event of an overturn, the Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) test is performed. This destructive test subjects the cab to extreme stress. At the German Agricultural Society (DLG) testing facility in Groß-Umstadt, the eCleango 550’s cab underwent this rigorous evaluation. The resulting certification confirms that the cab structure reliably safeguards the driver during a rollover, forming a key component of the internal safety standards.

Ergonomic

A safe sweeper is defined not only by its technical features but also by its user-friendliness. Ergonomic design minimizes the risk of accidents caused by operator errors. The layout of switches and handles, along with the machine's overall weight, is optimized for safe and intuitive operation.

Given that drivers often work long shifts in sweepers, an ergonomically designed seat is particularly important. The eCleango 550's seat has earned the AGR (Campaign for Healthy Backs) seal of approval, ensuring back-friendly working conditions and providing significant relief for operators.

All-Round Visibility

The eCleango 550 boasts nearly perfect all-round visibility thanks to its advanced window and camera system. A convex rear window provides the driver with a viewing angle of nearly 250°. Additionally, a floor-level viewing window offers a clear view of the suction chute and disc brushes.

The system can also be equipped with a 360° camera, which doubles as a reversing and suction chute camera, allowing the operator to monitor the machine and its surroundings at all times. Two large side mirrors further enhance visibility of the working area and surroundings. With the integration of mirrors and cameras as standard, blind spots are virtually eliminated.

Holistic Innovation: Combining Safety, Durability & Versatility

The development of a safe, electric sweeper demands a holistic understanding of technology, safety, and user-friendliness. From the initial design phase through to certification, numerous steps are undertaken to create a product that not only performs effectively but also meets the highest safety standards. Close collaboration between engineers, product designers, and test teams results in a sweeper that seamlessly combines efficient performance with comprehensive user safety.
