New Line Traction drive honoured with gold medal!

Aebi and Müller Landmaschinen are presenting Line Traction for the first time at Agritechnica in Hanover – a new drive system for the Terratrac. It offers maximum traction, even greater soil protection and a completely new driving experience. Developed by Müller Landmaschinen and integrated and tested in a Terratrac in collaboration with Aebi Schmidt, the system was awarded the gold medal at the AGRITECHNICA Innovation Award – one of the most internationally renowned awards for agricultural innovations, which only two of the 251 innovations submitted received.

Combining the advantages of classic drive technology

The development goal was to combine the advantages of different drive systems in a new drive concept in order to maximise traction in every driving situation. For example, mechanical locks and differentials prevent individual wheels from spinning, but cause tension in the drivetrain and increase tyre wear. Operating the differential locks also requires a high level of attention from the driver and leads to fatigue and loss of productivity during long periods of work.

How Line Traction works

In contrast to conventional vehicles with longitudinal and transverse differentials, the Line Traction system is based on rigid shafts. There are no differentials, locks or clutches - each shaft leading to the wheel hub rotates at the same speed. The speed difference required for cornering is generated in the final drive by an adjustable planetary gearbox. The ring gear is supported by an internal hydraulic circuit and can be released in a controlled manner by a proportional valve. This creates a speed overlay, which allows each wheel speed to be individually adapted to its own run-off line. The trajectories are calculated in real time from the steering angle and speed. Manual intervention in differential locks is completely eliminated.

The advantages of Line Traction

Line Traction provides the full traction potential at all times: Up to 100 per cent of the drive power can be transferred to a single wheel, regardless of the steering position or surface. This increases efficiency in use, makes turning manoeuvres easier and enables larger working widths with less ballast. At the same time, the system works fully automatically, meaning that differential locks no longer need to be operated - a clear gain in driving safety and relief for the driver.

See for yourself

The system installed in a TT 281 was tested over several months both by our development department and by farmers in practice. In the process, the concept fulfilled the strict test criteria of the developers as well as the high requirements in practical use. At the Aebi and Müller Landmaschinen stand at Agritechnica from 9 to 15 November in Hanover, you can see for yourself and talk to our experts and developers. Further information can be found on the joint Line Traction landing page of Aebi and Müller Landmaschinen.

We are delighted to have won the gold medal at the AGRITECHNICA Innovation Award and to have been recognised by the jury. Line Traction will enable the cultivation of demanding terrain in a whole new dimension.
