As Assistant Service Manager for MB Airport Maintenance Products, Sam brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience in diesel technology, heavy equipment maintenance, and airport snow removal operations. At this year’s event, he will be leading sessions in both the basic and advanced snow programs, including a co-led advanced session alongside Mark Rudolph of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
Attendees can expect practical, experience-driven instruction covering setups, broom use, plowing, snow blowing, and overall equipment operation. These sessions go beyond the fundamentals, focusing on how operators can better understand their equipment and make more informed decisions in real-world conditions.
“Training has evolved significantly over the years,” Sam notes. “It’s no longer about jumping in a truck and heading out to move snow and ice. It’s about understanding what the equipment is doing and how to operate it effectively.”

Currently in testing with Denver International Airport, MB’s training simulator is designed to give operators a safe, controlled environment to learn and practice equipment operation without the risks and cost associated with field training.
The training simulator addresses several key challenges facing airports today, including limited resources and the need to onboard new operators. By allowing users to familiarize themselves with controls, practice snow removal scenarios, and experience varying weather conditions, the simulator builds confidence before operators ever move onto the runway.
This type of training reduces the risk of equipment damage, eliminates the need to take active machines out of service for training, and provides consistent, repeatable learning scenarios year-round. From clear-day operations to full blizzard conditions, operators can train for virtually any situation.
