Today Peter Spuhler, majority shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Aebi Schmidt Holding AG, inaugurated the new Aebi factory together with mayoress Elisabeth Zäch and further guests. CHF 28 million were invested in the new construction. This is a commitment to Switzerland as a location and to the long-term securing of the Burgdorf site with its 200 employees.

Opening ceremony

127 years after the founding of the company, the machine factory Aebi, manufacturer of agricultural machinery and municipal vehicles, was able to move into a completely new plant. The factory inauguration ceremony takes place today. About three years ago Peter Spuhler and Gero Büttiker entered Aebi & Co. AG as majority shareholder with his Swiss business group; he merged Aebi with the German Schmidt Group in 2007. A powerful group of companies in the field of agricultural, municipal and winter road maintenance vehicles resulted, which will also succeed in the fierce international competition in the future.

During their speeches, Elisabeth Zäch, Peter Spuhler, Walter T. Vogel, CEO of Aebi Schmidt, and Marco Studer, COO of Aebi Burgdorf, pointed out the great importance of this new construction for Aebi and the town of Burgdorf. Mayoress Elisabeth Zäch is very happy about the commitment to the Burgdorf site: “In this way we were able to maintain the 200 jobs in our town, despite the economic crisis.” Peter Spuhler emphasised: “Apart from our excellent products, a modern and efficient manufacturing infrastructure is inevitable in order to keep our market position. At this point, I would also like to thank all employees and the management team around Walter Vogel for the successful implementation of this project.”

New construction in Burgdorf

Since the beginning of 2010, the new premises have been used for production. The modified processes and the principle of flow assembly are already well established. Due to the optimised processes and the very short logistical paths, productivity was markedly increased. Furthermore, the well-lit, spacious and modern rooms provide a pleasant atmosphere.  The corporate building holds three floors, including the basement, and was set up on a property of 27,000 sq.m., constructed as a hall. The building is 175 m long and 64 m wide. The whole complex of buildings is heated in an environmentally friendly way by means of a water/water-heat pump system.

The sales programme provides a wide range of multifunctional, qualitatively and technically advanced working vehicles and devices for agriculture in hill and mountain areas, for municipal services, landscaping and maintenance of green spaces as well as snow clearing. Since 2007, Aebi has been part of the international Aebi Schmidt Group with around 1,300 employees and an annual turnover of EURO 300 million.
